About White Ink Calligraphy

I’m Claire White, the hand and heart behind White Ink Calligraphy. I’ve been in business for about three years, under the name White Ink Calligraphy. Before that, I dabbled in calligraphy services under my married name. I went through a pretty traumatic divorce, and a turning point in my life – or the life as I knew it – and picked up my calligraphy pens, finding therapy in my practice. During that time I returned to my maiden name, White, and that was when White Ink Calligraphy was born. I’m a lover for social media and the connection it provides all of us, despite social media’s shortcomings. You’ll likely find me on my stories with my dog, #goodboyremy, sharing behind the scene images of my work, home and daily life. While most of my clients start off as brides, I strive to let them know I am “their calligrapher” – here for any life occasion or decor piece that is needed in their home. I absolute love following life’s transitions with my clients and maintaining that special relationship.

 

What is your favorite part of what you do and what do you love most about Nashville wedding days?

Sharing the art of calligraphy. Educating clients and consumers about the art. I love being a part of my clients’ life celebrations.

I love seeing all of the pieces come together. Just like a home, no single home is the same – we all have different paint colors, different styles, different layouts, different pieces of the puzzle that work for us. A wedding day is no different and I love that. No two weddings are the same.

 

What is one piece of advice you have for couples planning their Nashville weddings?

Take it slow. Not all decisions have to be made within months after becoming engaged. Do your research and find the vendors that speak to you, you wish to support, and will help fulfill your vision for your big day.

 

What do you recommend brides look for when working with a Nashville calligrapher?

Every calligrapher is different. We each are our own artist and none of our styles are the same. So when looking for a calligrapher, be sure to look through their entire portfolio. See what offerings they have besides just envelope calligraphy and find ways to incorporate their art throughout your big day. This helps make everything cohesive and provides a tailored style, specific to the client.

 

When you’re not working on envelopes and event signage, what do you do for fun?

My (soon to be) eleven year old golden retriever, Remy, keeps me busy. If I’m not out walking him or playing ball, I’m working on a remodel or redesign in my home. I just purchased a new home and my creative wheels have been turning! I love a good happy hour on a patio at a neighborhood establishment – that’s always safe to say! Also, I’ve turned into bit of a travel junkie, taking weeks off at a time to travel overseas when time allows.

 

What is one of your favorite calligraphy requests you’ve received?

I had a client ask me to hand letter inside the family bible. This bible had to have been at least 200 years old, passed down from generation to generation. The mother was passing it down to her daughter, the bride. Other family members had inscribed inside the bible with each passing. To say I was nervous was an understatement. The older the paper, the trickier a project is.
