Alex & McKenzie’s Folly Beach Wedding | Charleston Destination Wedding

November 4, 2020

Even though Alex and McKenzie planned to get married at Ravenswood Mansion in Nashville, TN, McKenzie soon realized that a traditional wedding wasn’t the right fit… That’s when they opted for an intimate destination wedding instead! I absolutely loved travelling to Charleston for this Folly Beach wedding!

Nestled on Folly Beach is a 3 story, sky blue house overlooking the ocean. This beach house was the perfect venue for Alex and McKenzie’s wedding weekend! With the ceremony site just steps from the back door,  the bride and groom had a beautiful beach wedding followed by an intimate, back yard reception!

When I arrived on Saturday morning, McKenzie was upstairs with her 2 best friends, Claire and Anna. Everyone was giddy and I could hear giggles as I made my way up the stairs. McKenzie’s cousin, Courtney, was already working on her hair and makeup for the day. McKenzie wanted a pull through braid for her wedding. (A bridal look inspired by Jasmine from Aladdin) The girls wore matching pajamas and popped champagne while getting ready. And McKenzie slipped into a stunning A-line tulle dress with a corset laced bodice.

McKenzie chose to share a first look with both her dad and soon-to-be husband before the ceremony! A first look is such a special way to enjoy an intimate moment together before the craziness of the wedding day picks up. After the first looks, McKenzie and Alex got married on Folly Beach. They stood in front of a wooden arch beautifully adorned with greenery and white flowers. McKenzie’s Grandpa officiated the ceremony. And everyone cheered when they shared their first kiss.

Alex and McKenzie planned an intimate reception following their Folly Beach wedding ceremony. The sweetest moment was during Alex and McKenzie’s first dance when McKenzie’s dad stepped in. Alex then danced with his mom as well, and eventually several couples made their way to the dance floor. It was special to see how all their loved ones joined in during that wedding tradition.

I think everyone would agree that the highlight of the reception was the speech from the best man and brother, Blake. He teased the bride and groom about how they met through him and about his role in their relationship. He was a true crowd pleaser and had everyone laughing!

Once the party was over and guests started heading out,  we took wedding portraits on Folly Beach.  Those are some of my absolute favorite pictures from the entire day! McKenzie and Alex posed with the ocean behind them, and we ended up with gorgeous light while the sun was setting.
