As a Nashville wedding photographer I love capturing the little details that make up the whole day. Sometimes this looks like stacked wedding bands or your dainty “something borrowed” from Mom. It’s your dress hanging against the wall or the handkerchief that’s been passed down from one generation to the next. Each wedding I photograph is full of these momentos that come together to create a special day. For Joe and Kelly, my favorite detail happened to be a little pink collar.

Earlier this year Kelly said goodbye to Luna, her little black and brown doxin. Kelly loved this dog for 11 years and was heartbroken when she passed. Joe and Kelly are self-professed dog lovers and from day 1 of their engagement, they knew they would include their dogs in their wedding celebration.

When I arrived to the Denison’s home to photograph the wedding, there were 2 little dog bandanas waiting for me. One read “Best Dog” and the other one toted “Dog of Honor”. Harmony and Ella, Joe and Kelly’s pups, were VIPs and walked down the aisle before Kelly made her way to Joe. After the ceremony Kelly mentioned that she just about burst into tears watching as the 2 girls walked down the aisle without Luna. She was sad Luna couldn’t be part of the wedding day, but she knew she was there in spirit.

This is where the little pink collar comes in. Earlier in the day Joe asked me to photograph a surprise detail for Kelly. He was wearing blue socks with black and brown dachshunds, and around his ankle sat a pink collar. He wore Luna’s tag and collar all day long so she could be a part of their wedding day. It was such a special touch, and one that could easily be missed.

As I mentioned earlier, every wedding has its own details and unique momentos that make up the day. But this one stood out to me. Joe’s attention to detail and his sensitivity to Kelly’s feelings are what made this pink collar have such a deeper meaning. It was truly an honor to photograph this Nashville micro wedding at the Denison’s backyard and to witness the love these 2 share.
