What’s Trending for 2020 Weddings?

January 1, 2020

Planning a wedding can be one of the most exciting (and most exhausting) things you’ll ever do! If you’re tying the knot in 2020, I’ve got the perfect wedding planning post for you. Below are some of the hottest wedding trends that I am seriously loving right now. Remember: your wedding day is first and foremost about you and your spouse, but that doesn’t mean you can’t have jaw-dropping décor or absolutely darling details!

Statement Décor

Big and bold is a theme I’m all about for 2020. Brides are including wow-factor elements in everything from giant balloons inscribed with “Mr.” and “Mrs.” to a custom firework display at the end of the night. You don’t want to overdo it with the statement pieces, but a gorgeous velvet couch in your wedding colors or an oversized chandelier can add the perfect punch to your reception. If you choose to include a statement piece, make sure it’s located in a convenient and obvious location for all your guests to enjoy.

Self-Service Bars

I love this trend because it could actually end up saving you a little bit of money while providing your guests with a unique experience! Cut back on a bartender and instead have guests serve themselves from a rented self-serve bubbly bar, mix their own sangria and fruits, or grab a custom shot from a wall display.

Hair Combs and Barrettes

You’ll see a lot of brides adding a beautiful hair comb or barrette to their bridal hairstyles in 2020. Whether you choose to wear your hair up or down, an elegant comb is the perfect accessory. Emphasize your style with a bedazzled barrette or a pearl-adorned hair comb. These pieces will work with virtually any style and instantly add a little glam to your bridal look.

Bold Florals

Flowers aren’t just for bouquets anymore! I’ve seen some gorgeous oversized, cascading bouquets, full floral arrangements down the aisle, and some stunning floral arches.

The floral trends are moving more toward vibrant, bold colors as well! Don’t be afraid of bringing in some pops of color to your palette. This bold floral trend applies to reception décor, too! Instead of a small arrangement on every reception table, consider keeping most tables simple with a candle or greenery arrangement and then including a few oversized centerpieces for a dramatic wow-factor.

Eco Décor

Green is the color of 2020 when it comes to sustainable decorating. I love that couples are thinking about the environmental impact of their decisions! From donating flowers or reusing them in different ways after the ceremony to composting the leftover food and avoiding single-use plastic, couples are making small, thoughtful changes to help keep the earth a little happier.

Dramatic Lighting

You aren’t just stuck with traditional uplighting for your wedding reception! Couples planning 2020 weddings are thinking outside of the box and using lighting as an intentional part of their design. Neon signs are popping up— customized with quotes or sayings special to the couple. I’m also seeing hanging lanterns, chandeliers, Edison bulbs, and other unique lighting choices.
