We’ve all got Pinterest boards full of gorgeous wedding day details. If you have friends who have gotten married, you’ve probably drooled over the photos of their invitations or an artfully arranged collection of their something old, new, borrowed, and blue. You want all of those details captured on your Big Day! But the truth is, those specific detail shots take a bit of planning and some specific effort from you. Your photographer can’t just whip up curated flat-lays without your help!
Make a Plan
Decide ahead of time, and discuss with your photographer, which detail shots you absolutely must have. Write down each detail and piece you want photographed and make sure you understand when your photographer will capture these shots. If you have a very specific request, like certain items being grouped together, make sure you talk it through with your photographer. Have all the detail items together in one spot and set aside. I recommend you use your wedding shoe box to store your small details and keep everything organized in one place!
Wedding Stationery
Your wedding invitation suite includes your invitation, details card, RSVP card, and addressed envelope. If you plan ahead, you can have an extra envelope addressed with a fake address (I love when brides use this small detail as a nod to a favorite fictional character!) to use in your photos. I always ask that brides bring two invitations so I can capture the front and back at the same time.
Asking your florist for floral remnants, including a ribbon in your wedding colors, or providing a textured fabric for the flat lay photos can make a big difference in the final photo. Talk to your photographer to get their expert opinions and advice for what to use for these shots!
Special Mementos
Are you wearing your mom’s perfume or borrowing a strand of pearls from your grandmother? Make sure you let your photographer know about any significant items you’ll be incorporating so you can get photos of them. Family heirlooms make great detail shots!
Rings and Hangers
These are two things that are often overlooked. Hopefully you don’t forget your actual wedding rings, but you might forget to bring your gorgeous ring box along for photos! And nothing ruins a gorgeous shot of your wedding dress than an ugly plastic hanger. There are so many options for personalized hangers (these also make great bridesmaids gifts!) so you can find something that’s decorative and fits your wedding vibe.
A little forethought and planning session will ensure your photographer has everything they need to capture the details photos you’ll treasure forever!
